Have you seen the new Mini 9 "netbook"? So cool. Just ordered one for my birthday (I will share with my wife, haha) and it will supposedly be delivered early November. The neato features of the Mini 9 is the price ~400, size (about nine inch screen), and weight (about two pounds). As far as ram and hard drive it leaves more to desire at 1 gig and 12 gigs respectively. But, hey, it is "posh" and we have the desk tops for the more heavy duty applications. Interestingly, it was rated as one of the top five laptops on cnet.com.
My little brother just got a nice new Dell laptop too. Maybe I'm just copying him.
Looking forward to testing it out!
Update 11/2/08: Still looking forward to testing the Mini out. The estimated delivery is on 11/6/08 but from my past experiences Dell has always delivered ahead of schedule. Must be high in demand or they don't have enough parts! Patience is a virtue...
I just got an Acer (almost generic) laptop a couple months ago. On sale for 399 at Best Buy. Wanted something to be able to code on the go. Prices have come down a lot! AMD Dual Core, 2GB RAM, 120 GB drive, 14" screen plus the usual goodies. Not as cool as a Dell or Mac tho, but serves my needs.. just better not break on me. Oh yeah and it's a whole 5.? pounds. More places should offer free wi-fi!
