Corvette Modifications and Notes.

The first modification was the jet stream blue handles and spoiler to replace the stock plastic black ones. Handles were easy to install, but it took me months to work up the energy to tackle the rear spoiler. Research online via corvetteforums.com gave me a step by step instructions on the DIY project. It involved taking off the two inboard tail lights, removing four nuts and detaching the brake light. Took about an hour to do and the results are awesome. The little cosmetic modifications sure make it look unique and classier.

Other toys I got for Bolt, is the CAGS eliminator, cargo cover, and rear license plate frame. By the way, the frame is too wide as it covers my registration stickers! Junk. I'll use it as a photo frame or something.

Purchased race ramps, two car jacks, and oil changing supplies. Did my first oil change with Dad and brother at 1002 miles on April 26, 2009. Used AC Delco PF 48 with Mobile 1 fully synthetic oil (6 quarts).

Polished the exhaust pipes with Mother's polish and it works amazingly well. So clean looking now.

Bolt is running very nice. Take it around town and up to the in-laws when the weather is nice and the road conditions good. The wife enjoys the car as well!

In the pipeline: floor mats and cargo mat.

Added picture of Corvette on two jack stands and raceramps.

Discovered that the removable top was making a popping noise every time the body flexed. Did some research on the forums and found the solution. Bought to quarter inch o rings and placed them around the forward two pins and voila. No noise anymore. 90 cents well spent.

Went on a nice 35 minute Corvette ride with my Dad. We both went with the tops down. That was the first time that I've really drove around with the top off and I liked it! Windy and loud at higher speed but exhilarating!

5/1/10:
  • Dead battery. Charging right now and hope it will hold he charge. Will look into replacing battery.
  • Did not hold charge.
5/4/10:
  • Replaced with Optima Yellow Top D35 battery from Autozone. Returned the old AC Delco to Autozone. Old battery was tested and had 0.02 volts. Yikes. Seems to work fine now. Three year warranty. Had to re-index windows after Bolt got revived.
5/31/10:
  • Oil changed. Synthetic Mobil 1 and AC Delco PF 48 filter. Millage about 1577. Need to drive more.
1/8/11:
  • Battery on trickle charge.
  • Mouse trap barrier to keep the rodents from pooping on the car.

  1. Photos coming? How did you do the oil change? Car jack(s)?

You should name something after the hamster in the movie Bolt.

  2. Hi!

Dad has some pictures of the oil change that I'll get from him and post.

First I drove the front tires up the race ramp (the ramps have a super shallow incline for lowered cars). Put wheel chalks behind each of the front tires. Then I jacked up the rear of the car using one jack on each side of the car. This took two people to raise the car at once. The goal here is have the car level when it is raised so that the old oil will drain completely. Next, drained the oil, replaced the oil filter, put in the new oil, and finally lowered the car. Ran the engine a bit and then checked the oil level with the dip stick.

The trickiest part was taking off the oil filter without old oil gushing all over your hands, arms, and eventually arm pits! Tip: wear eye protection and unscrew the oil filter fast and then dump the rest in the oil pan.

I don't really know if it is cheaper to do it on your own versus taking it to the dealer/shop, but it is sure satisfying knowing you can do it yourself.

I'm going to name another car Rhino!
